Where History Meets the Holidays

Thanksgiving Comes Alive in Plymouth:
America’s Hometown Celebration 2026

Parades, waterfront festivities, food trucks, live music, history, and Thanksgiving traditions take over Plymouth November 20–22.

Thanksgiving takes on a whole different energy in Plymouth.

From November 20–22, 2026, America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration fills Plymouth’s historic waterfront and downtown with three days of festivities. The weekend brings together a signature chronological parade, live music, food trucks, family activities, historical programming, a beer and wine garden, and a Sunday harvest celebration.

At the center of it all is the America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Parade, where more than 100 entries bring centuries of American history onto the streets through elaborate floats, marching bands, military units, reenactors, and heritage groups.

Whether you’re coming for the parade, exploring Plymouth for the day, or turning the celebration into a full weekend getaway, here’s what to know before you go.

Saturday, November 21: Parade Day

Saturday is the heart of the celebration, beginning with opening ceremonies and the signature parade before festivities spread across the waterfront.

🦃 AMERICA’S HOMETOWN THANKSGIVING PARADE
Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 AM at Pilgrim Memorial Park, followed by the parade stepping off from Plymouth Rock at 10 AM.

What makes this parade different is the way it tells its story. Instead of focusing only on Thanksgiving, the procession unfolds chronologically, taking spectators through different periods of American history.

More than 100 entries are expected, including historical floats, marching bands, military units, drum and bugle corps, reenactors, and heritage groups, all set against one of Massachusetts’ most recognizable historic backdrops.

The parade moves from Plymouth Rock along Water Street before continuing through Main and Court Streets.

Saturday on the Waterfront | 11 AM–4 PM

As the parade moves through downtown Plymouth, the waterfront celebration gets underway. From 11 AM–4 PM, the area fills with food, drinks, family activities, and historical experiences, giving visitors plenty of reasons to stick around after the parade passes.

🍴 FOOD TRUCK ALLEY

Presented by Cape Cod 5, Food Truck Alley brings a lineup of regional food trucks to the waterfront. Grab something to eat, explore the surrounding activities, and make a full afternoon out of the celebration.

🍺 BEER & WINE GARDEN

For the 21+ crowd, the Beer & Wine Garden offers a place to relax and enjoy a drink while taking in the waterfront festivities.

🎈 CHILDREN’S PAVILION

Families can head to the Children’s Pavilion for activities and entertainment designed with younger visitors in mind.

🏘️ HISTORIC VILLAGE & LIVING HISTORIANS

The history doesn’t end when the parade passes. Living historians and heritage displays continue the storytelling throughout the afternoon, offering another way to experience the past beyond the parade route.

🏕️ NATIVE AMERICAN PAVILION

Saturday’s waterfront programming also includes the Native American Pavilion, adding a cultural and historical component to the day’s activities.

🎁 HOLIDAY VILLAGE

Presented by the U.S. Air Force, Holiday Village adds another stop to explore during Saturday’s waterfront festivities.

Sunday, November 22: A Relaxed Finish to the Weekend

After Saturday’s parade-day energy, Sunday brings a more relaxed ending to the weekend.

🌾 AMERICA’S HOMETOWN HARVEST FESTIVAL | 10 AM–4 PM
Explore the Harvest Festival and the Plymouth Farmers Market, browse local vendors, and enjoy one final fall outing before Thanksgiving week officially begins.

It’s an easygoing finish to a weekend filled with parades, performances, food, history, and community celebrations.

Getting Around on Parade Day

If you’re heading to Plymouth on Saturday, plan ahead. Parade-day road closures begin hours before the 10 AM step-off, and traffic throughout downtown Plymouth will be affected.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES

Water Street from Union Street to the Town Wharf Rotary is scheduled to close beginning at 7 AM and remain closed through the end of the parade.

Several nearby streets are also used for parade staging, including:

  • Brewster Street
  • Howland Street
  • Chilton Street
  • Memorial Drive

Because the parade travels through Water, Main, and Court Streets, arriving early is your best bet if you want time to get situated before the opening ceremonies.

🚌 SHUTTLE SERVICE

Hours: 7 AM–3 PM

Shuttles operate approximately every 15 minutes.

Service connects designated parking areas and the Kingston MBTA station.

Accessible shuttle buses are available.

Transportation details may shift as the event approaches, so check the official celebration website for the latest parking, shuttle, and road closure updates.

Why Make a Weekend of It?

The parade may be the headline, but Plymouth’s Thanksgiving celebration is built for more than a few hours on Saturday morning.

Start with live music Friday night, watch centuries of history move through downtown on Saturday, spend the afternoon eating and exploring along the waterfront, catch an evening performance, and come back Sunday for the Harvest Festival.

It’s history, food, music, community, and fall atmosphere packed into one weekend, all in the place most closely associated with America’s Thanksgiving story.
