Who doesn’t love farmers markets? Strolling around the neighborhood, picking out fresh food, and enjoying the warm weather is a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon. There are a lot of farmers markets in the Boston area, in a variety of neighborhoods. If you’re looking for a local farmers market, try searching in your neighborhood. Here is a list of seven known farmers markets in the Boston area if you’re looking for one to try.
Copley Square
Tuesdays & Fridays, 11am-6pm
Located in Back Bay, Copley Square is one of the biggest farmers markets in the Boston area. Three dozen Massachusetts vendors are featured, selling produce, protein, baked goods, prepared food, and other local products. Both farmers and food producers come together to create a wide variety of items to choose from. This market is a big hit with locals and tourists alike!
Charles River
Fridays, 12pm-6pm & Sundays, 10am-3pm
Located in front of the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, Charles River is a year-long round farmers market to get fresh ingredients ready to eat. Plenty of vendors are featured selling seasonal produce, cheese, pasta, and protein. From April to November, the farmers market is right out front on the sidewalk with plenty of tents. Next to the market is One Reason Garden Bar, featuring drinks and a popup restaurant. This year, Kured is selling charcuterie and sandwiches.
Central Square
Mondays, 12pm-6pm
Located in the middle of Central Square, this farmers market features produce, protein, dairy, and other food vendors. Further, Central Square farmers market featured BIPOC Initiative Vendors in past years such as Cocobelly Bites, Palate Paradise, and Rooted Juice and Cafe. Along with all of the options, there are plenty of restaurants around the area like Little Donkey and Life Alive.
Davis Square
Wednesdays, 12pm-6pm
Located in the middle of Davis Square, this farmers market features fresh produce, fish, and other food vendors such as Kimball Fruit Farm - which they advertised on their Instagram. Further, regulars have the opportunity to join a loyalty card program, where once you fill your card up with stamps, you win a prize. This farmers market is located in a parking lot across from American Flatbread, also near Sacco’s Bowling Haven - a perfect family friendly activity to do after shopping.
Haymarket
Fridays & Saturdays, 6am-7pm
Located in Hanover Street near Boston’s North End, Haymarket has plenty of vendors from all over the world: Mexico, Cambodia, Syria, and India to name a few countries represented. The market goes all-year round and there are over 40 vendors. Haymarket is one of Boston’s oldest outdoor markets selling produce and seafood. The Boston Public Market is in the same area, which is a different market to check out.
Greenway
Saturdays, 11am-5pm
Located in the Rose Kennedy, where State Street and Atlantic Avenue meet, this farmers market is different because a big part of it is that it is an artisan market, featuring local artists and designers. In addition, people can go to the parks and view beautiful trees, and eat at food trucks, all while taking in the sights of the city. This is an experience not to miss!
East Boston
Wednesdays, 3pm-6:30pm
Located in Central Square Park (which is not in Central Square!), this farmers market features local food and produce, free meals for kids, fun and wellness activities, art, and music. In addition, East Boston farmers market promotes the Power of Produce club, a program promoting nutrition for kids. It also promotes organic methods of producing food, and guarantees that everything is fresh.
Union Square
Saturdays, 9am-1pm
Located in Union Square Plaza, this farmers market features a total of 60+ vendors selling produce, protein, bread, jams, pickles, hot sauce, and more. Community is at the heart of this farmers market, allowing people to connect with farmers and food producers themselves. In addition, there are plenty of local businesses in the area to check out while you’re there, from restaurants to bakeries to craft stores. Nearby is Bow Market, featuring a bunch of local businesses in one place.
