Jazz Sunday: Ran Blake: Improvising to Film Noir

Jazz Pianist Ran Blake, photo by Aaron Hartley

A rare intimate evening with Ran Blake, jazz legend, MacArthur Genius award-winner, and co-founder of the Contemporary Improvisation program at NEC. Obsessed with film noir, wildly creative, highly original, he creates spontaneous solos, mixing classical tonalities, great American blues & gospel, and storyboarding based on movies. Hear him improvise on a grand piano to projected film clips. Set followed by jam to projected movie clips.
Jazz Sundays at the Square Root brings together Boston’s best jazz artists in an intimate restaurant setting for performances followed by themed jam.
