Xanadu at Speakeasy Stage 5/11 thru 6/9
|
|
|

They say that once you learn how to ride a bicycle you
will always be able to ride one, even if it’s been years
since you even tried. McCaela Donovan says the same can
be said about roller skating…up to a point. Although she
learned to skate as a girl, it really didn’t prepare her
for the six-to-eight hour days, six days a week, she’s
been putting in learning how to perform as she roller
skates in the new SpeakEasy Stage Company production of
Xanadu. “We’re really working hard to make it look
easy,” Donovan said in an interview with Boston Event
Guide.

This Week's Movie Reviews

A Dimwitted Dark Shadows
What sounds like a decent horror thriller is actually a
mash-up of lowbrow comedy, camp and cheesiness that
simply can’t make up its mind if it wants to scare you,
thrill you, make you laugh or make you wonder what Tim
Burton was thinking when he decided to make the movie in
the first pace. The fact that all those impulses are
often crammed into the same scene, with only the
question of why it was made winning out in the end, is
the biggest problem with this latest collaboration
between Burton and his favorite leading man, Johnny Depp.
