Blue-haired celebrity chef and restaurateur Jason Santos is excited to unveil his new concept, Citrus & Salt.  Located at 142 Berkeley St., Santos’ newest venture will deliver MexiCali flavors and beachy, coastal vibes to guests in the heart of the Back Bay.

Santos, who currently owns and operates Boston’s Abby Lane and Buttermilk & Bourbon, aims to channel the success of Buttermilk & Bourbon’s focused concept and translate it into sister restaurant, Citrus & Salt, based off of a similar format and execution. Instead of drawing influence from Santos’ love of the bayou, Citrus & Salt will draw influence from Santos’ love of the Baja coast of California and Mexico.

Most recently hailing from the Waldorf Astoria in Boca Raton, FL, Chef Zen Hyderck will execute Santos’ culinary vision. The menu will offer a variety of shareable small plates showcasing playful, reimagined coastal MexiCali cusine as well as plenty of raw bar options. Menu highlights will include: Mole Poblano Braised Lamb Flautas with tomatillo salsa, shredded cabbage, queso fresco; Pork Belly Chicharrone Tacos with yucatan mayo, shredded lettuce, pickled onions; Crab & Cactus Chowder with tapioca, tequila, tortilla strips; and Sea Scallop Ceviche with fresh mango, aji amarillo, turmeric, banana “dippin’ dots.” For dessert, the menu will feature: Made-to-Order Churros with vanilla dulce and mezcal chocolate dipping sauces; Soft Serve Sorbet-of-the-Day in a salted pretzel cone; and Dole Whip with fresh pineapple puree.

The bar program has been thoughtfully curated by General Manager and Partner Colleen Hagerty. Guests can expect Citrus & Salt’s beverage program to feature a wide variety of playful, delicious options for imbibing. In addition to an expansive offering of beer, wine, classic cocktails, Citrus & Salt will also offer a variety of margaritas featuring fresh fruit purées; a nitro cold brew on-tap with chocolate tequila, Mexican cinnamon and house whip; a house michelada; a shareable margarita; red and white sangrias; and signature drinks served with paletas, or Mexican popsicles.

Designed by Assembly Design Studio, the space promises to transport diners to the Baja coast of California and Mexico circa the 1970’s. Exuding airy, beachy vibes, Citrus & Salt’s main dining room will feature white-washed brick and wood; pops of pastel and florals; a mix of distressed and mid-century modern resort-style furniture; and whimsical café lights. Perfect for large parties or private events, Citrus & Salt’s “Garden of Santeria” in the rear of the restaurant will boast blacklit murals; dark, moody tones; cushy lounge furniture; lush greenery; and an edgy, spooky feel. The entire space will include seating for 150 including a full bar in the main dining room with seating for 20.

Citrus & Salt’s will be open from Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to midnight with the kitchen open until 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. with the kitchen open until 11 p.m. Lunch and brunch service will follow soon after. Citrus & Salt is located at 142 Berkeley St, Boston, MA 02116. in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. Visit www.chefjasonsantos.com for up-to-date information.
