There aren’t too many bands we’d go see just for the name, but c‘mon….The Swinging Utters?! How can you NOT want to see a band whose name conjures up such a vivid image?

But who are The Swinging Udders? Well…first we tried their website, but the bio section seemed more like it was written by a PR guy trying to sell their back catalogue. Wikipedia was a little better, but not much:

“Swingin' Utters (often typeset as $wingin' Utter$, and originally called Johnny Peebucks and the Swingin' Utters) is a Californian punk rock band that formed in the late 1980s. After a seven-year hiatus, the band reformed in 2010 and have since released three more records.”

(And for the record, we don’t think we’d be so excited to see ‘Johnny Peebucks and the Swingin' Utters.’ It’s a bit too cute.)

Anyway, a visit to YouTube gave us a chance to hear what a Swinging Udders song sounded like. Now you can, too.

Swingin' Utters - Windspitting Punk (Official Video)

Swingin' Utters -"Alternative Ulster"

Swingin' Utters - Live At Fat Wreck Chords

While the first two songs show a angry young band making great punk/pop music, the last clip shows that age hasn’t slowed them down too much. And that’s pretty cool.

The Swinging Utters play The Middle East on Nov. 12. Showtime 7 PM. Tickets $12.
